Italy

If you’re absolutely in love with Italian culture, you’ll be happy to know that retiring there is cheaper than you think! In the southern part of Basilicata, you can buy a home for around $32,000. In the historic town of Matera (where one of the James Bond movies was filmed), you can rent an apartment for $625 a month.

In the eastern Puglia region, which is famous for its sunny beaches and fresh seafood, the cost of living is even lower. What you have to know is that Italy doesn’t have a retirement visa program, so you’ll have to apply for an elective residency visa.
