10 Frauds Seniors Are Often Confronted With

December 6, 2019 · Retirement Life

Taking Advantage of the Mourners

Be careful: When someone’s partner dies, they may be told that he or she was in debt. There is even the case when a total stranger will pretend to deliver some unknown package that was supposedly ordered by the deceased. It’s shameful, but the fact that these scammers are actually looking for widowed spouses even at funeral houses is a reality. You cannot even trust the funeral home, as it can sometimes be part of the scheme and ask for unnecessary payments, such as an expensive casket for a cremation.

Dangers: The mourning spouse may lose money on unneeded funeral expenses.

What is being done: AARP helps seniors prevent such frauds.
