Average household expenses in the US in 2019: $3,459

Personal finance specialists usually recommend spending more on quality groceries that last longer instead of going out to eat or getting take-out. That’s because cooking at home is way cheaper and even healthier than eating out.

Bottom line: you shouldn’t completely exclude eating at restaurants but be more careful with choosing where you eat and what to eat. And just think that a little bit of planning can help you cut your eating out expenses and turn them into savings which brings you one step closer to your FIRE goals.

    this is ridiculous. if you can’t afford some soap for your clothes, you should not be retired, go back to work.

    THIS IS SO NOT TRUE. Who wrote this should be embarrassed by their own ignorance. Anyone even close to retirement know the things you quote here in this article are as important in life at anytime. Honestly you sound like a bunch of idiots.
