9 Ways to Manage Your Time Like a Pro During Retirement

February 2, 2021 · Retirement Life

Forget Multitasking as a Time Management Skill

For many people that have just left the workforce, it’s hard to give up on multitasking. After all, we’ve been taught that the more things we can do in a short span of time, the better and more valuable we are.

You might find yourself in an existential vacuum. The downfall? Despite all your free time and lack of pressure from your job, you could end up multitasking again. Thus, instead of unwinding, you’ll find yourself more stressed, which could have negative health implications, especially in the long run.

By multitasking, you’ll simply burden your brain with a cognitive overload, which could lead to severe health issues such as memory loss. Why? Because multitasking stops your brain from accessing the hippocampus. This is the area of the brain in which memories are created. So you may feel as though you’ll have lapses in memory.

The best thing you can do is forget about multitasking as a good time management tool. It’s time for you to take things slow and enjoy each of your activities one at a time without feeling pressured to complete them all in a certain time frame.
