11 Smart Ways to Save $1 Million for Retirement on a $50K Salary

May 22, 2020 · Retirement Life

Find the Money to Save

Putting aside a portion of your salary can be quite challenging, especially if you’re earning less than $50,000 a year. So, how can you find room in your budget to save money every month?

“First, you have to want financial freedom just as much as you want other things in life,” Anspach said. Focusing on achieving that goal will help you become more determined in trimming or eliminating certain costs such as subscription costs or housing ones. “Even something as small as giving up soft drinks in favor of water can lead to big savings,” Anspach said. “Suppose you spend an average of $12 a week on soft drinks and tea. That’s $624 a year.”

According to Rosenblum, you can easily save around $250 by switching to a cheaper cable TV package, reducing your grocery bill by eliminating food waste and preparing low-cost meals at home instead of eating out often.
