10 Best Spots in the U.S. to Spend Your Retirement Years

March 18, 2020 · Retirement Life

Jacksonville, Florida

When thinking about places to retire in Florida, Jacksonville is not exactly one of the first cities that comes to one’s mind. However, this does not make it any less appropriate for retirees.

In fact, Jacksonville is among the fastest-growing cities in the U.S. with 12,153 new residents in the past year alone, according to Census Bureau data, becoming the 12th most populous city in the country.

More than that, “when you add up all of the factors, it’s actually the most affordable big city in the state for a fun and active retirement. The cost of living here is below the national average and a full 10 percent less than Miami”, said Chief Operating Officer Danny Goodman of 55places.

Jacksonville also scores big points in terms of health care opportunities (several hospitals and a branch of Mayo Clinic), good weather and overall wellbeing. Housing costs are relatively affordable and job opportunities for active seniors are definitely not scarce.
