Social Security benefits aren’t taxed for married couples, as long as they have a federal adjusted gross income that’s less than $100,000. The same goes for single taxpayers that have an AGI of less than $85,000. If you don’t qualify in one of these two categories, don’t worry!

Taxpayers who exceed these income limits can still qualify for a partial exemption on their benefits. There is a tax on groceries (1.225% state rate and additional local taxes may apply), but also on clothing, and motor vehicles. The income tax range is as low as 1.5%, on taxable income that starts from $108 to $1,088.
