4. Thinking delayed spousal benefits work like retirement benefits

We agree that waiting until 70 to claim your benefits can be a good idea, but don’t confuse this advice with supposed delayed spousal benefits. These do not fall under the same umbrella. You will not get any boosts no matter when you file, so if you do wait you’ll just miss out on extra money in your pocket along the way.
