10. Not understanding how work affects Social Security

Claiming early retirement can save you in a pinch, but before you make that decision, consider the downfalls. It will cost you $1 for every $2 you make over $17,640 in 2019 if you’ve not reached full retirement age yet. 

Yes, it’s true, you could earn it back. But you never know when an emergency might occur and not having any benefits to rely on can put you in serious harm. For every month’s worth of benefits you give up on you will get credit for an additional month of work, though.
