Con: Could Change the Program Fundamentally
Which takes us to our next issue: changing the program fundamentally. It is borderline impossible for changes to be made to Social Security in a nonsubstantial way. As mentioned earlier if the tax cap is removed, benefits calculation should be changed too. Not only that but we might need to look towards taxing unearned income as well.
The issue of redistributing some wealth would not come forth through just one change alone. Think of it as a domino effect. Of course, there are those who would rather not change Social Security at all. Right now, it is a form of insurance for working people and their dependents. What would it transform into further down the line?
