11 Myths About Social Security Finally Debunked

‘You’re required to claim benefits as soon as you retire.’

The fear of missing out on retirement benefits is probably what started this myth. You should only claim benefits immediately (when you turn 62) if you absolutely must. That’s because you’ll see penalties if you don’t wait for your future retirement age. 

Wait until you’re 70, if you can. That way you’ll gain even more money. Of course, not everyone is able to do this. 

At any rate, don’t fall for these myths and start collecting when you feel it’s right for you. But also, you should know that there’s no point in waiting past 70, as you won’t be gaining anything more after that age.
