15 Best Retirement Cities With the Most Seniors

April 8, 2020 · Retirement Life

Barnstable Town, Massachusetts

Surprisingly, Barnstable Town is the only city in Massachusetts with such a high percentage of seniors, coming in at 29.8%. This might be because the Cape Cod region offers a lot in terms of recreation, especially for those who can’t get enough of splashing in the water. You’ve got boating, swimming and fishing opportunities at every glance, which is highly important for those over the age of 65 who want to keep fit and stay healthy.

Costs are relatively high, so those without a substantial retirement cushion might think that the pros of a large senior community might not outweigh the 21.5% increase in the cost of living compared to the national average. Housing also comes to around $382,400.

This might not be too surprising, considering the fact that Barnstable Town is a popular tourist destination, with the total population currently at 213,444.
