Older Americans do want to save money

Financial benefits were not among the top answers provided by most Americans in relation to retirement relocation but there was, however, a group that had a different opinion.

Older Americans stated their main reason to move to a different location for retirement was to save money on housing costs and pay lower taxes.

Let’s take a closer look:

  • 45- to 54-year-olds: live in a better climate and/or warmer temperature (21%); save money on housing costs (19%)
  • 55- to 64-year-olds: live closer to family (24%); pay lower taxes (24%)
  • 65-year-olds and over: save money on housing costs (14%); live closer to their family (14%)
