October 6, 2020 · Retirement Life

Lubbock, Texas

Seniors in the workforce: 22%

Senior population: 28,413

This northwest Texas lying at the economic center of the Lubbock metropolitan area is not only known for its award-winning wineries and cultural events, but also for keeping its seniors quite busy. Houston

Seniors in the workforce: 22%

Houston also has a high percentage of seniors still in the workforce. “Our study revealed several Texas communities with significant senior working populations, a reflection in part of [the state’s] growing aging demographics, but also of its growing overall workforce,” says Spittal of Provision Living. There are plenty of job openings for positions such as internet analyst, insurance claims adjuster, and tutor.

Arlington, Texas

Seniors in the workforce: 21.8%

Senior population: 38,652

Texas cities are not only in the top ten but also in the second part of our list. Arlington, yet another Texan city just south of Dallas, has a growing number of seniors still in workforce. With a median senior household income of $48,286, no wonder people 50-plus choose to keep working.
