2. Getting your full retirement age wrong

There’s a penalty for claiming your benefits early, so make sure you’ve got all the information before starting the process. If you think as 65 as the typical retirement age, you might want to think again. 

Born in 1938? Then your full retirement age is higher than 65. For those born after 1986, it’ll be 67.
