No Filing for Low-income Seniors

Low-income, married retirees with an income of under $27,000, excluding Social Security, rest assured, you need not file a federal return at all. But watch out, as if one of you is under 53, the limit is actually $25,700. Individuals, however, need to earn under $13,850 in order to qualify.

This is especially helpful for those who haven’t managed to save enough money for their retirement, especially since their Social Security benefits are not taken into account.
