10 Effortless Ways to Make Extra Money for Retirement

May 24, 2021 · Personal finance

Use Your Stuff to Generate Passive Income

If sharing your home is not really your thing, you can try a different approach: rent out some of your stuff. For instance, if you have an RV or other types of recreational equipment like motorcycles, boats, bicycles and the like, you could monetize them instead.

If you own something that you believe would be appreciated by other people, don’t hesitate to turn it into a money-maker, especially if you’re not using it very often. Here are some examples of things you could make available to others in exchange for money:

  1. A) Your Outdoor Adventure Vehicles

There will always be people interested in renting RVs, camper vans, Jeeps or sprinter vans. If you have one of those just sitting in your driveway and taking up space, what are you waiting for? Rent it out!

  1. B) Any Kind of Vehicle

If you have a sports car or any kind of vehicle for that matter, that you don’t need on a regular basis, you could also turn it into profitable source of income. To have an idea about renting prices and the renting procedures, check out Turo and GetAround.

  1. C) Your Boat

It doesn’t matter if your boat is small or big, if it can accommodate a party of people, it’s big enough to serve its purpose: bring you money. On online platforms such as Boatsetter, you can rent out your fishing boat, water ski boat, sailing ketch, a luxury yacht or whatever other type of floating toy you own and wait for the money to reach your bank account.

  1. D) Your Sports Gear

Check your garage for any kind of sports gear you no longer use as often or need at all…like a bike, snow gear, a stand-up paddleboard, surfboard…you name it. Sports gear are quite popular for rent on website such as Spinlister or The Quiver.

For outdoor equipment, Quipmo is one of the most popular sites out there.

  1. E) Your Home Goods

If you’re not the sportsy type, worry not. Other things you own can be just as good sources of extra income. Take your home good for example. Tools, cooking equipment, popcorn machines, ladders…there’s no limit to what you can rent out to other people. After all, there’s someone bound to be interested in something you no longer want.

Platforms such as Zilok or FatLlama can facilitate the connection between you and your future renters. Sporting goods and electronics, such as cameras, drones etc. are in great demand.
